Searching for the perfect shape

  • From any page you can quickly search by a shape name from the header bar. Alternatively, visit the shapes page and use the FILTERS bar on the left hand side to configure options, preview shapes in different materials or just browse our long pages scanning for the shape you are looking for.

If you cannot find the exact shape you are looking for using the keyword search, use the filters bar on the left hand side of the shapes page to narrow down your search further.

Shape Filters Bar

  • On the left hand side of both the shapes and materials page you’ll find the “FILTERS” bar. This allows you to configure lots of different options so you can easily narrow your search down to the shape you need.

    View with material
We LOVE this option! You can view all of our laser cut shapes in any of our materials. This option will give a great indication of how all available shapes will look in any material you choose. Just click on the "FILTERS" bar on the left-hand side of the page, there are many options available here for viewing our shapes, right up the top you will find "view with material" This will bring up our material picker where you can browse and choose a material or select a material from your existing material favourites.

    Hole and size drop-down previews
The next option in the filters bar is to view all shapes that have the hole and size options you are after. Looking for a 20mm shape with a top loop? You can choose this from the drop down menus and it will show you only the shapes available with this option and ALSO what the shape looks like once cut. Shapes are sized to fill the space so a 10mm shape will view at the same scale as a 100mm shape, click through to the shapes detail page for a better idea of scale and to see a more accurate representation of how the shape will look in the chosen material.

    Shape categories
We have categorised each and every shape on our site, click on a category to view all of the “hearts and stars” or “arches & rainbows”. You can choose multiple categories to view at the same time and remove a category from view by using the X.

    View by kind
We have also categorised every shape with a kind - organic, abstract, symmetrical etc. It’s a lovely way to find shapes similar in style. You can mix and match all of these search elements to find the exact shape you need! View all symmetrical shapes with a top hole, or all Hearts available in 60mm size.

Individual Shapes Page

  • Configure your shape and preview online

On each individual shape's page you have 4 drop down menus to configure your shape options. Choose a material, hole option, size and quantity, choose to mirror your shapes or order in pairs. Each option will change the preview image and add some extra information to the description field. You can click through to read more information about the material you have chosen and ensure it will be exactly what you are after.
  • Choose Material

Choose a material from the drop down menu to preview your shape using that material. Use the heart icon to quickly see your favourite materials or type the material name in the search bar. The material preview gives you an indication of what your shape will look like once laser cut. This is a computer-generated preview and works better for some materials than others. To see examples of how finished shapes look when cut from your chosen material have a look at the individual material page, we have included photos of actual laser cut pieces.
  • Choose a Hole Type (or no hole)

The online preview also gives you an idea of what the shape looks like with different hole and loop options. Holes and loops are great for hanging shapes or chaining them together. This is a preview of the exact file we use to make your shape, so if you think it doesn’t look quite right keep playing with those options!
  • Choose Size

Sizing is chosen in 5mm increments starting at 10mm and going up to 100mm. We have added a hand to give you an indication of the size your shape will be when held. This is a rough indication, we do know that all hands are different sizes! So grab a ruler to work out the exact size, shape sizes are measured across their longest side (excluding any loops, see below for more on sizing).
  • Quantity and Mirroring

In the quantity drop down you can choose to order a total quantity (eg 10 pieces all shapes the same) or order in mirrored pairs (5 pairs where half are flipped to make earring pairs) price discounts are automatically applied for larger quantities.

Mirror as pairs - Shapes can easily be ordered in “pairs” so that you can make laser cut earrings with shapes that are asymmetrical and with a material that is different front and back. The shape description will update to tell you if you need to use this option.

Mirror all shapes - Shapes that are asymmetrical can be “flipped” to change the direction of all of the shapes, this option can be useful for materials that have different front and back finishes or colours. The page description will update to tell you if you need to think about shape direction based on material choice.
  • Pricing Bar

The pricing bar gives you an idea of the cost of your piece. It also gives you a summary of the options you have chosen, a heart to add the shape to your favourites (save for later) and an “add to cart” button. Once you have added the item to your cart you will be taken to the cart page to check your item. Press the back button to come back to the page.

Shape Favourites

  • You can add shapes to your “favourites” by clicking the heart icon found on the shapes grid pages. This is an easy way to run through our massive shape collection and sort the ones you think you’d like to use in the future.

For a more detailed favourites list you can go into each shape and configure the shape details and then add to favourites, you will see the shape preview (with options) in your favourites list, and when you go back to that shape from your favourites later it will have kept the details there for you. This is great to save the shapes you use regularly.

SHAPE SIZING

  • How we work out shape sizing

When we work out the size of a shape we always use the longest edge to size the shape.

So if the shape is 40mm wide it may only be 20mm high, this needs to be taken into account when ordering wide or tall shapes as the dimensions may be very different for width/height.
  • Sizing of shapes with loops

When we add loops to a shape they are added outside of the displayed shape size.

So if your shape is 20mm x 20mm with a loop top and bottom then the shape itself will be 20mm but the loop will add an extra 4mm top and bottom of the shape, making the TOTAL height to be 28mm.
  • Previewing sizing online

The online preview on the individual shape pages also gives you an idea of what the shape looks like at different sizes, 10mm shapes will be displayed smaller than 100mm shapes on this page, giving you a better idea of scale. This is a preview of the exact file we use to make your shape, so if you think it’s not quite right keep playing with the options. We have added an illustrated hand to give you a rough indication of the size your shape will be when held - but obviously everyone’s hand is different so if in doubt grab a ruler!
  • Using a ruler at home

A great way to ensure you get the right size shapes is to use a ruler at home. You can look at the dimension on the ruler and visualise the size that piece will end up. You could also use a piece of paper and draw the shape size (as a rectangle) on that piece of paper along with any other shapes you want to order to see how the shapes sit together.

jewellery holes and loops

  • Adding holes

Each shape you choose gives you the option of adding holes so you can hang or chain shapes together. These hole options are only available if that shape has space at that size to add a hole option, so some shapes will not be available with every hole or loop option, you can use the filters bar to view shapes only by hole options available (eg if you know you need a shape with a top hole you can view only shapes available with a “top hole”)
  • Adding Loops

Loops are also available for nearly all shape options. Loops are external holes and are usually easy to add onto shapes that are very small or have no room for an internal hole. Loops are also available for statement pieces (multi loops) and may be very useful when making detailed jewellery pieces.
  • previewing holes & loops

Holes and loops are available to preview online for all shapes (on the main grid page) or a chosen shape (on the individual shape pages). Use the filters bar on the main grid page to view all shapes with different preferences or on the individual shape page you can see all options of loops or holes for that chosen shape.
  • Loop and hole dimensions

Holes are all 2mm in size and then 2mm from the edge for shapes less than 60mm. Holes get a little larger (up to 2.5mm) for larger shapes up to 100mm. Loops are made from 2mm holes with a 2mm border of material surrounding the hole.
  • When holes are not available

Some shapes are not available with holes or loops, these are shapes where we couldn’t see a good option for placement or they were not symmetrical enough to make it work.

If you’d like to add your own holes to these (or any other) shapes you can easily use a handheld Dremel Drill at home to add your own holes exactly where you need them.
